A simulation study was conducted on a bottle packaging line for GlaxoSmithKline, formerly Glaxo Wellcome, at their Zebulon, North Carolina manufacturing facility. The study had three objectives: 1) increase the overall productivity of the equipment, 2) alleviate bottlenecks in the production process, and 3) decrease equipment downtime. Glaxo used WITNESS to develop the models in this study. WITNESS is a menu-driven program that assists users in building models by prompting them for information on standard manufacturing functions. It also allows users to construct an animated layout on the screen, using either standard or custom icons.
